So its been quiet around here lately, but I figured I ought to drop in to share whats been going on recently in CF-land. I've been mostly busy at the real job - the game I was working on got put on hold and I got moved onto another project to help get it out the door. That one is shipping in a couple weeks, so its been the usual frenzy of last minute fixes trying to get this thing ready.
In case you missed the announcement on the front page, there's going to be another CF tournament at O-Ringen next month. This year Offa and Jukkis are in charge of maps, and I hear they've got some great ones lined up. I'll be coming over for the week to run O-Ringen and play a little CF, so if you're going to be there make sure you drop in and say hi.
Also check this out: www.cflive.dk. If anyone out there can read Danish better than me, please let me know what I just volunteered to help with =)
CF2 has been on a rollercoaster of on/off development for the last couple months, sometimes I get a few days of good work in, and other times I don't get to touch it for weeks. There still isn't much there, I'm mostly still playing with tech to see what I want to / can do. I've got some great looking trees up and running, and the tech for the terrain is there, I just need to put some art time into making textures. I spent a week or so playing around with some physics stuff, and got a few pine cones you could kick around around on the hillsides (I don't think most of you guys have big cone pine trees in your end of the woods, but around here they get big!)
So all of the CF2 work is really just playing to try to figure out what I want to do for the actual game. I definitely want CF2 to be more than just a new graphics engine on top of the same gameplay. While that would be cool (and the graphics certainly need it), its too easy =). So I've been kicking around lots of ideas on what to do: ranging from a single-player story-based game, to mutliplayer online based game (CF-MMO anyone?), to everything in between. So far I haven't nailed anything down, but I've come up with lots of ideas that are much too ambitious. So we'll see where that all ends up.
Oh yea and I added some quick gamepad support into CF. So now if you've got an xbox 360 controller you can use that to run CF. I gotta say, hooking the laptop up to the TV, and sitting on the couch and playing some comps with the controller is pretty fun.
Anyway thats about it for CF news lately. Hopefully in a couple weeks the real job game will be shipped and I'll have some brainpower left over to do some CF work. Even if not, I'll see you all at O-Ringen! |
