Map Contest Resultsbiggins - Feb 19, 2008 The judges have spoken, and here are the results from the 2008 CF winter map making contest! Congrats to the winners! Roman has won himself a new ski-o map holder, Sandro wins a new compass, and Janne wins an awesome CF t-shirt! I will be uploading the maps to Comps tomorrow for everyone to race on, and then I'll release the maps for download when the comps are done. The CF Ski-O Update!biggins - Feb 8, 2008 So I couldn't very well have a winter themed map contest but not have skiers in the game. So I took a little time to make some new models for the game, and added a new "ski-o" mode that you can set on your maps to turn all the runners into skiers. Check out the screenshots, grab the latest update, and then read the bottom of the CFEdit FAQ to figure out how to use it. I'll also upload a sample map to Comps today to show it off if you just want to play. One more week until the 2008 Map Contest is done! I hope you've got the finishing touches going onto your maps. If not you've got all weekend to get started! I've updated the map contest page with the first prize - a Nordenmark ski-o map holder!
2008 Map Contest!biggins - Jan 10, 2008 Ready for some map making? Catching Features would like to announce its 2008 winter map making contest! The theme of this contest is "Castles in Winter". It should be a tough one, but I think you guys are up to it. We get a few ski-o maps uploaded to Comps now and then, but I don't think they've really been pushed as far as CF can take them yet. Can you do better? And just to keep it interesting, you also have to include a castle in your map somehow. Who can make the best looking castle model? The contest starts now! Full details and rules are available here. Update!biggins - Jan 6, 2008 Update 1.400 was released today! It is a mandatory update for both the Competitions and the Multiplayer system, so you'll need to grab it if you want to keep playing online. Its a pretty large update, but thats because it includes a huge update to the standard trees list for Comps. What does that mean? If you make your own map and upload it to comps, the upload file will include any non-standard trees that you're using (ones that aren't part of the normal CF install) so that everyone else will see those trees when they play. But including the trees makes the upload size bigger, so your map can't be as big or as detailed. By adding the trees to the standard CF install, now everyone has them and they don't have to be included in each Comps upload. This saves download bandwidth and allows you more room in your upload file for other data. Big thanks go out to Jochen, Jukkis, and JariW for the new trees! Jari made a huge number of trees for the WOLG tournament last summer, and has been generous enough to allow all of them to be included. Together they have almost doubled the number of trees available! Merry Christmas!biggins - December 21, 2007 Its been quiet on the CF front for a while, but I couldn't finish out the year with the last update being in July, so here goes. Its been a fun year for Catching Features: we started off with the first ever CF map making contest, which brought out some great CF maps from more than a dozen of you. Then the summer rolled around with the 5-day onsite CF tournament at O-Ringen. Over a hundred people turned out to run some great courses, and almost forty completed all five days to compete for the series prize! It was a great event that we hope to continue this coming summer in Dalarna. Its been fairly quiet around here since then, but I assure you I haven't been idle. I released a few updates to the map editor and ocad converter using lots of your feedback for the year, and also did some work to the CF game engine itself to make things easier to work with. Recently I've been working on some cool new engine technology, but you'll have to take my word for it because I'm not quite ready to show you yet =) Anyway I'm itching for another map contest, how about you? Its winter, so what do you think about doing some ski-o maps? I'll start a thread on the discussion board, let me know what you think! LAN Tournament Results!biggins - July 30, 2007 The tournament is finished and was a great success! Congratulations to Bård Hauan Andersen, who edged out a two minute lead over the tightly spaced Markus Adolfsson, Oskar Andersson, and Anton Tynong! Full results are available here.
